We all have life experiences. We experience wins and disappointments. Wins may come in the form of obtaining a degree, owning a home, marriage or promotion. Disappointments may come in the form of failure, rejection, divorce or unemployment. We are quick to internalize disappointments, but will find a way to turn our disappointments into wins.

How do you respond when you cannot experience a win from your disappointment? You established a vision or goal. You have the faith to believe you will achieve your vision or goals, but nothing seems to be working for you to experience wins. What do you do? Some people will quit trying. Other individuals will improve themselves through personal growth and experience wins.

One of my favorite quotes from James Allen’s, author of As a Man Thinketh is “People are anxious to improve their circumstances but are unwilling to improve themselves; they therefore remain bound.” The following are truths from James Allen quote:

  • Being anxious to improve our circumstances keeps us bound.

  • Unwilling to improve ourselves keeps us bound.

  • To improve our circumstances, we must improve ourselves.

To experience wins in our lives, we must improve ourselves. Personal growth works with our faith. The following are three ways to apply personal growth in our life or career:

  1. Identify areas you will need personal growth to achieve your vision or goals. The areas could be time management, reinventing self, increasing leadership skills, money management, learning to connect with people, etc.

  2. Identify bad habits and replace them with good habits. For example, the bad habit of starting and stopping work out plans during the process of losing weight. This habit could be replaced with a good habit of being consistent with a work out plan during the process of losing weight. Good habits creates wins!

  3. Be patient. Improving ourselves is a process. Allow yourself to make mistakes. After you make mistakes, learn from your failures and keep moving in the process.

Personal growth starts with a choice. You have the inner strengths to win. Your inner strengths include choices, beliefs, vision, focus, talents, skills, character, etc. Personal growth is the key that will unlock the potential of your inner strengths. We grow by choice, not by age.
