Excellence is a virtue that comes from a heart free of toxic influences. Toxic influences are factors that work against how we were created. Excellence comes from love. I made loving myself a priority after recognizing my toxic thoughts, emotions, and beliefs about myself caused me to be stagnate in life.

Most of my life, I was attempting to improve myself by working on my weaknesses and failed 90% of the attempts. After every failed attempt, I would pull out my critical magnifier glass and judge my weak points. I entered and stayed in the self-judgment zone being critical of my shortcomings. This became a toxic problem for me. I viewed myself through the lens of my weaknesses and failures. Self-judgement is the enemy to our mind, will, and emotions. I was being an enemy to myself. This paralyzed me from moving forward in life. I was seeking for perfection. We were not created to be perfectionist.

The breakthroughs that I experienced from improving myself is when I began to love myself. This includes having a passion for my uniqueness. Now, I expect excellence. Excellence is a result of self-love. Loving yourself means to take delight in how you were created. This lead to improving our strengths versus our weaknesses. This includes your talent, skills, values, character, or additional areas that are your strengths. This is what causes us to grow and reach our potential. Overall, move forward in life.

The following are 7 ways to live with excellence:

  1. Love yourself. Make room for yourself in your heart. Your passion and affection for yourself increase when you love yourself. This guard your heart from toxic influences.

  2. Be patient. We are not perfect. Be patient with yourself to learn from your mistakes. Recognize your mistakes are learning opportunities.

  3. Own your truth. Receive in your heart the truth of who you are. Take action on how to live in your truth with the awareness that you have a purpose for your life.

  4. Protect yourself. Guard yourself against people who do not value you. Connect with people and environments that value you. In addition, challenge you to reach your potential.

  5. Trust yourself. Trust what is on the inside of you that will create opportunities for you. Identify your desires, dreams, ideas, inventions, or plans to pursue opportunities.

  6. Have Hope. Hope the best for yourself in any situation. This opens the door of faith for you to believe and expect the best for you.

  7. Be persistent. Stay the course to be you without toxic influences. This put pressure on any adversity or opposition that attempt to stop you from being you.

It’s natural to desire to be recognized for what we do. We were created to be known for our works. Excellence is a virtue that paves the way for us to be known and appreciated for what we do. I challenge you to identify how you can show more love to yourself. What is your plan to be excellent?
