Do you ever feel frustrated when you are unable to complete an important task? As a leader, is it a struggle for your team to work together in unity to fulfill daily duties? Negativity is one reason why a person or organization cannot complete necessary tasks. Think about the following quote: “Where your focus goes, your energy flows." When we focus on negativity, our energy goes toward negativity. Focusing on negativity produces zero to limited results for things that matter.

Last week, I could not think clearly. I was unable to complete a blog. This bothered me. I reflected on what created this space of confusion. The answered came to me clearly. I was giving more attention to what was going on in the news. I turned my attention fully to our cultural climate and became overly concerned about division in our country. I lost focus of completing my daily tasks. Overall, this paralyzed me from being productive.

This is why it is important to guard ourselves and organizations from negativity. The opportunity to entertain negativity is available daily. The key is to not allow negative issues to be the focus of the day. Instead, make purpose and vision be the focus of the day. This includes having a positive environment that creates productivity.

The following are 10 ways to increase productivity:

  1. Choose your focus. Make a daily decision to focus on the mission of the day.

  2. Have a positive attitude. A positive attitude gives recognition to purpose and vision. Reflect on the good. Identify what is working for you or your organization. Build on strengths.

  3. Have integrity. Be honest with yourself and others while giving your best in every situation.

  4. Complete important tasks. Complete tasks that you can control. Give less attention to matters you cannot control.

  5. Pursue peace. Choose peace over every situation. When conflict arises, focus on peaceable solutions.

  6. Recognize the good in others. Identify the good qualities of people you interact with. Acknowledge their strengths and the role they play in your personal life or organization.

  7. Serve others. Identify daily how you can make a difference in someone life. This could be as simple as giving them a smile.

  8. Build trust. Identify how you can earn the trust of others. This start with communicating and building relationships with others without deceitful or unselfish motives.

  9. Be consistent. Keep working your purpose, vision, and tasks daily. What you do on a daily basis determines the effectiveness of your productivity.

  10. Celebrate your wins. Take time to celebrate winning moments whether they are small or large. This gives recognition to the big picture of purpose and vision.

Purpose, vision, and positivity create space for productivity. We were created to be productive in every area of our lives. This includes any organization. Productivity is not automatic. We must make the choice to do what is necessary to be productive. How will you increase your productivity?
