I have shared on many occasions an alarming statistic from the Gallup’s State of the American Workplace Report, that 70% of American workers are disengaged from their jobs. This means many organizations in America are lacking efficient service and productivity. This statistic alone needs a Public Service Announcement. I normally talk about people living their purpose which is one solution to increasing American workers engagement in their careers. In addition to purpose, there is another solution to increasing employees’ engagement and that is leadership. Therefore, I am expanding my services to offer leadership resources and training.

The definition of leadership can be broad. If you ask several people what is leadership, there is a higher chance you will get different answers. The Merriam-Webster dictionary definition of leadership is the office or position of a leader; the capacity to lead; the act of leading. How do you measure leadership based on the definition of leadership? There is one word that measure leadership and that is influence. My mentor John Maxwell, a leadership expert says, “The true measure of leadership is influence – nothing more, nothing less.” This is not a statement, it is a truth that has been proven in many organizations and governments across the world. I have applied John Maxwell leadership principles in my daily living and have seen results. I’m grateful for the opportunity to equip leaders with the John Maxwell Method of Leadership. Let’s be clear management, entrepreneurship, education, trendsetting, and position does not make a leader. It’s the person that makes effective leadership which is their influence. Have you served under a leader that had the knowledge and great management skills, but lacked the ability to lead? This caused you to look for an opportunity to move from under their leadership. This leader could not lead because they lacked positive influence.

Influence is not neutral. It is either positive or negative. The character of the leader and relationship with people they are leading determines the culture of the organization. Leadership and culture determine the organization level of success in service and productivity. This is part of the solution to effective leadership that brings results. As a certified John Maxwell Team member, I will be honored to share with your organization John Maxwell leadership principles that will equip leaders to lead with positive influence. A leader that grows knows how to lead.
