3 Ways to Influence People

Leadership is influence. Every leader should ask themselves “How is my service?” Service is the main ingredient to be effective as a leader. Your influence is determined by your service to others. Whether you are a CEO, Director, Parent, Teacher, Principal, Stylist, etc. your services are based on your relationship with the people you serve. How should a leader serve people? Leaders add value to people by serving them.

Leaders are to lead with a common mission, vision, and/or goal. Skills, talents, and abilities are needed for any role of influence. However, one person cannot do it alone. People are needed to fulfill the mission and vision of any entity. Therefore, priority must be toward valuing people in an nurturing environment.

The following are 3 ways to influence people:

1. Show care. Caring for people is giving concern about who they are, their interest, and how you can add value to them. This creates the opportunity for a person to feel welcomed in an environment. When you show people you care, they will share their ideas, skills, abilities, or resources to serve you.

2. Show trust. People give minimum to no interest in environments they do not trust. It’s important to establish boundaries that create trust. Trust includes not exposing others vulnerability. It’s important to create a safe zone environment for people.

3. Offer help. Assisting people is the best gift we can give others. This includes sharing knowledge, ideas, resources, support to help them overcome challenges and reach their potential.

Leadership is about people. People are the greatest asset in any entity. People thrive in nurturing environments. My personal growth and skills accelerated after joining the John Maxwell Team. I was connected to leaders who added value to me while challenging me to apply life principles in my life daily. Our skills are enhanced and grow when we are in nurturing environments. This is about relationships.
