What do you see yourself doing in 5 years? Over 5 years ago, I could not tell you where I was going. I was frustrated and constantly thought that there was more to living. The dark moment of depression in my life helped me realize that I needed a life of fulfillment. I was a person with a relationship with God but felt a void. For several years, I ignored examining my life. In 2014, I examined my life. I discovered the right direction for my life through self-awareness.

Life will throw curve balls that will cause you to drift through life dealing with factors that worked against you. This leaves you with an empty feeling of void. Therefore, it’s important to use your self-awareness to examine your life.

The second part of self-awareness is to identify where you are going. This includes examining your relationships, career, finances, and most important your purpose. You have the willpower to examine where you are going through your self-awareness. It’s vital to look up and examine the right direction for your life. Life will appear comfortable but ignoring feelings of frustration, dread, and void will keep you in a life of unfulfillment.

In Genesis 3:9, God asked Adam, "Where are you?" God knew Adam’s location, but he gave Adam the willpower to discover where he is going. Adam responded to God in fear with guilt and shame. God did not create you to live in fear. 2 Timothy 1:17 says, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and a sound mind.” He equipped your spirit with a sound mind. It’s important to use your self-awareness with a sound mind by faith.

Do you enjoy what you are doing daily? If you are not satisfied with the direction of your life, you have the power to move beyond life factors that work against you. God has given you everything you need now to live the life he created you to experience.

Therefore, it’s important to allow your self-awareness to work to your advantage. You may say I don’t know where I want to go. To examine where you are going, ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Do you use your talents, skills, and abilities daily?

  2. Are you maximizing your potential?

  3. Are you maximizing your talent, skills, and abilities in your career?

  4. Are you celebrated by others in your career?

  5. Does your current state of living produce personal growth for you to advance in life?

  6. What is your passion?

  7. Are you moving forward with your passion?

  8. What idea do you consistently think about?

  9. Have you tested the idea?

  10. What do you often picture yourself doing?

  11. What can you do daily to profit from your talent?

  12. What childhood dream do you continue to entertain?

  13. If you are not doing what you are good at daily, what do you need to do to experience it daily?

  14. What are your strengths?

  15. How do your talent and strengths fit into your ideas?

  16. What would you do with your talent if you were given a million dollars to fund your idea?

You will enter an awareness of where you need to be if you take time to answer the questions. Ask God for clarity. Stay in faith as you enter the awareness of where you are going. Don’t allow fear to paralyze you about moving forward. This is why God told Joshua to be bold and courage (Joshua 1:9).

Where are you going? Do you believe you can reach your destination?
