What do you desire to change in your life? It could be to change careers, health, better relationships, improve your spiritual life, financial security, start a business or a promotion.
Do you feel there are barriers that are keeping from experiencing the change you desire in your life? These barriers may have caused you to feel depressed, anxious, restless, regrets about your life, doubt, frustration, etc.
I want you to know that God did not create you to carry the burden of what you are experiencing in life. Life barriers are set up for one purpose. That purpose is to keep you from experiencing the change you desire in your life. You may ask. What shall you do?
Depend on God. Only God can move you past issues that trouble you. Jesus is the answer to whatever you need. So, whatever your problem is, ask Jesus to fix it. You may say, “I asked God and nothing has changed. I have been dealing with this problem for years.” Did you give the problem to God after you asked him to fix it? I have been guilty of holding on to problems after I asked God to fix it. Instead, I would worry and try to fix it myself. This is when God expects for you to rest in him.
What is resting in God?
Resting in God is believing him. To stop doing things your way and give your problem to God. This includes learning his thoughts and ways on how to handle your problem. When I experienced my second episode of depression, God instructed me to just read his word and not think of any of my problems for 30 days. This was hard but I had to trust him. Before the thirty days were up, I had peace even though my problems did not change. God’s peace gave me the courage to stand in faith and deal with my situation his way.
I learned strategies how to continue to pursue his will and plans for my life while life problems were in my face telling me to quit or now is not the time. God delivered from depression and problems when I rested in him. You will be spinning your wheels with no results if you are waiting on problems to change without resting in God.
In Matthew 11:28-29
(CEB), Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are struggling hard and carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest. Put on my yoke, and learn from me. I’m gentle and humble. And you will find rest for yourselves."
Resting in God Includes:
Believe God. Believe that he can deliver you from any situation. Hebrews chapter 3 and 4 explains resting in God. Hebrews 3:19 (NIV) says, “So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.”
Stop doing things your way. Hebrews 4:10(NIV) says, “for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his.”
Learn God's thoughts and ways. God thoughts and ways are different than how you handle matters. He may tell you to give a gift to someone who lied on you. You may think it’s best to cuss the person out. Remember you want to experience God’s best for your life. God has a solution for every problem you have. Isaiah 55:8 (NIV) says, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.”
Value God. In the Bible, the Israelites could not enter the promised land because they did not keep God in their heart Hebrews 3:10 NIV says, “That is why I was angry with that generation; I said, ‘Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not known my ways.” Keep God in your heart.
Keep your confidence. Keep your confidence of who you are in God. You are born of God. You are an overcomer. You overcome by faith. I John 5:4-5 says, “for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.”
I encourage you to get your rest in God. You deserve it!
