I remember sitting in a rocking chair, crying in pain. “The Lord softly spoke to me, Get in your purpose.” I wanted God to fix things that were out of control in my life before I pursued my purpose. Instead of focusing on my problems, God was instructing me to rest.
Resting in God is a spiritual law to experience desires in your heart.
Jesus paid the price for you to rest in God. It’s important to know what is resting in God and how to receive rest from Jesus.
What does it mean to rest in God?
Resting in God is to stop living your life your way. This includes making decisions that release anxiety in your mind. Hebrews 4:10 (KJV) says, “For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.”
The purpose of resting in God is to receive the way to live your life Jesus sacrificed for you to live. John 14:6 (KJV) says, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Only Jesus can give you rest. Jesus said in Matthew 11:28 (KJV), “ Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Rest from God is not automatic. You must receive your rest from Jesus. The following are 3 truths to getting rest from Jesus.
1. Go to Jesus: Jesus said, “Come to me…" in Matthew 11:28. It is time to go to Jesus when you are too tired to pursue God’s plans for your life. God rest is available so you can pursue God’s promises and plans for your life.
2. Believe God: The children of Israel didn’t enter into God’s rest because of unbelief. Hebrews 3:19 (KJV) says, “So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.” One way to expand your belief in God is to believe that he has a way for you to live his plans for your life. Believing God's way is peace in your mind, joy in your heart, and discipline to achieve desires in your heart.
3. Make a Commitment to Seek God: Resting is your commitment to seek God with all your heart. 2 Chronicles 15:15 (KJV) says, “And all Judah rejoiced at the oath: for they had sworn with all their heart, and sought him with their whole desire; and he was found of them: and the Lord gave them rest round about."
How can you expand your commitment to God in 2020?
In my book, Desires of the Heart, I share how to commit to God with all of your heart in Chapter 3 (Rest).
