God will advance your life even when your circumstances remain the same. Elizabeth Keckley was born a slave. She experienced physical, verbal, and sexual abuse as a slave. Yet, God advanced her life during slavery. Ms. Keckley's skill as a dressmaker gave her the strength to move forward.

She made dresses for women in St. Louis, Missouri. Her income supported her slave master's family of seventeen people. The opportunity came to buy her freedom when she accepted a loan from her client.

After thirty years of slavery, Elizabeth Keckley moved to Washington DC and became the seamstress for Mary Todd Lincoln, wife of Abraham Lincoln.

Elizabeth Keckley's life advanced because she focused on “being” who God created her to be.

God advances your life when your focus is on “being” who you are in Christ. One meaning for life is a state of being in force.

Your state of "being" includes:

  • Your thoughts

  • Your image in Christ

  • Your talent

  • Your influence

You gain energy, strength, and momentum toward your destiny when you are fruitful in all areas of your being. Jesus said in John 15:16, “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.”

Your state of “being” is what Jesus chose and appointed you to live.

Life advancement is accelerated growth. God made you to live by growing. Think of where you are now and where you want to be. There is a gap between your start and end. You close the gap by growing.

The starting point for growth is to allow God’s word to identify where you are and where you need to be. Psalm 119:105 (MSG) says, “By your words I can see where I’m going; they throw a beam of light on my dark path.”

Your life advances when you grow in the following areas:

1. Grace and knowledge of God. God’s grace includes God having a divine influence on your heart. God’s power flow in your heart when you grow in the knowledge of God. The attitude of “I know” keeps a person from allowing God to accelerate their life through growth. The knowledge of God is beyond human understanding. God’s grace gives you access to know God from your heart.

2 Peter 3:18 says, “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.”

2. The word of God. Growth in the word starts by desiring it. God’s word reveals the truth of your “being” when you allow it in your heart. Jesus said God's word is truth. God’s truth opens your mind to know your image, talent, and influence in Christ.

1 Peter 2:2 (AMP) says, “like newborn babies [you should] long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may be nurtured and grow in respect to salvation [its ultimate fulfillment],”

3. Speak God’s word. Saying God’s word produces results. You grow into the fullness of your “being” when you speak the truth in love.

Ephesians 4:15 (AMP) says, "But speaking the truth in love [in all things—both our speech and our lives expressing His truth], let us grow up in all things into Him [following His example] who is the Head—Christ."

God will advance your life through growth. It’s a strategy to move forward in life.
