God promises that his goodness and mercy will follow you.

God’s goodness includes his favor and kindness towards you.

Psalm 23:6 (NKJV) says, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me

All the days of my life..."

Unfavorable circumstances can cause anyone to think God’s goodness is not following them.

Last week, I went to the Emergency Room due to not feeling well.

I waited approximately 11 hours before I received care.

I had patience during this process because God gave me the guidance to go to the hospital.

I thank God that I received favor from ER Doctors and Nurses to get the proper care to recover my health. I saw God’s goodness working on my behalf.

How do you harvest God’s goodness out of unfavorable situations?

I observed while waiting in the ER three types of personalities present.

  • The first type was individuals who were angry by verbally expressing frustration for waiting. Some people in this group left early out of their anger.

  • The second type of people was verbally complaining about the health care system. They doubted the hospital service. Some eventually left.

  • The third type of people had the patience to wait. Their facial expression project confidence they would receive care.

These three types of personalities reflect a mindset of peoples’ perception of unfavorable conditions and circumstances.

I understand and have projected all three personalities at different times in my life.

The good news is God made us with the ability to see His goodness.

What is your perception of God’s goodness?

Your heart, the core of who you are, was made to see God's goodness in your life.

Your heart includes your perception of how you see God and His goodness.

A heart of gratitude recognizes everything good, even in unfavorable circumstances.

Psalm 27:13 (NIV) says, "I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living."

How do you remain confident in seeing God’s goodness?

Here are 6 ways to see God's goodness:

  1. Recognize God is with you all the time. To know God is to be in a state of awareness of God’s presence. God gave you the heart to know him. Jeremiah 24:7 (NIV) says, “I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the Lord...” Your heart knows God’s presence.

  2. Be humble. God lives people who have humility. Isaiah 57:15 (NKJV) says, “…I dwell in the high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones.” A humble spirit submits to God with a heart of repentance.

  3. Ask God for guidance every day. God is the source of goodness. Psalm 23:1 (NKJV) says, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” A shepherd guides sheep in the right direction. God's goodness follows you when you get God's guidance.

  4. Trust God. God's direction may come without the reasoning to understand His instructions. I was in the ER for approximately 11 hours after God guided me to a specific hospital. Relying on God includes taking action when you don’t understand his guidance. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."

  5. Have faith and patience. God’s goodness following you is a promise from God when you make Him the source of living. You inherit the promise of His goodness through faith and patience. Hebrews 6:12 (NKJV) says, “that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

  6. Recognize God’s goodness. Have a heart of gratitude; when you see God’s goodness in your life. God’s goodness will follow you in all circumstances. Thank God as you see his goodness. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV) says, “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

Distractions can keep you from seeing God's goodness. Seeing God's goodness comes with a mindset to stay aware of God's presence.

May God’s goodness and mercy follow you all the days of your life!

Love and Blessing,
