God-given desires come from the grace of God to influence you to act.
One Meaning Of Desire
Desire is an internal act that influences the will to proceed to taking action, according to the Webster Dictionary 1828 Edition.
The influence of God-given desires is God’s grace.
Desire And Grace Are Based On Your Faith
God created the universe by faith. You were made in his image and likeness to live the desires of your heart by faith.
God’s grace influencing your heart and God-given desires are based on your faith.
While you may embrace this truth, the fact remains that you are dealing with life circumstances that are connected to your five senses of hearing, sight, touch, smell, and taste.
What do you have faith in?
I ask this question because tradition will cause you to put off or ignore what God put on your heart to do.
Human Tradition Vs. God-Given Desires
Jesus addressed the Pharisees' tradition when they found fault with the disciples for eating without washing their hands. They kept the elders' tradition of washing their hands before eating.
The Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus in Mark 7:5 (NIV), “Why don’t your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders instead of eating their food with defiled hands?”
Jesus said in Mark 7:8 (NIV), “You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.” Mark 7:13 (NIV) says, “Thus you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many things like that.”
God’s word is His promise, where all God-given desires come from.
Tradition stops God’s word from working in your life.
How do you move past tradition?
The Lord’s Teachings With Spiritual Growth
The Lord’s teachings show you how to move past tradition.
His teachings stand the test of time and are not built on tradition.
The following are 3 Biblical truths about God’s teachings:
1. God’s teachings are ancient, standing the test of time.
“Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said, ‘We will not walk in it.” Jeremiah 6:16 (NIV)
2. The Lord teaches and counsels you.
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. Psalm 32:8 (NIV)
3. Jesus gives us grace by faith. Jesus’ teachings are God’s teachings.
“My teaching is not My own,” Jesus replied. “It comes from Him who sent Me.” John 7:16 (BSB)
The word of God is Scripture in the Bible that reveals God’s teachings.
It’s easy to base your thinking on human tradition.
It took me 18 months to detox my thinking based on some traditions. I am still growing.
You move past tradition through spiritual growth.
We grow spiritually by God’s word, which is God’s teachings.
1 Peter 2:2 (CSB )states, “Like newborn infants, desire the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow up into your salvation,”
May God’s grace influence your heart by growing spiritually.
Be well,
