I use to condemn myself for the decisions I made in the past by regretting them. These types of decisions lead to me making mistakes. I would let my mistakes play in my mind while thinking if I would’ve, should’ve, or could’ve done something different.

Have you made a decision you regret?

Dread was growing in my mind every time I focused on my mistakes. It is a fear or apprehension to do something. It’s what causes you to believe you are stuck. It’s why I felt stuck in my career. For example, I use to dread starting the work week while looking forward to Friday.

What do you dread now?

Dread connects to circumstances that cause you to believe you are stuck. The truth is you are not stuck. Jesus paid the price for every mistake you made. 1 Peter 3:18 (NIV) says, "For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God...” You are in right standing with God to move beyond anything that caused you to feel stuck.

I was tired of the dread in my life. I asked God to help me. I changed the way I saw my circumstances. I focused on moving forward. I moved forward by developing a spiritual mindset through personal growth. Moving past what you regret comes with growing in God’s grace.

Your faith in God is the starting point for moving forward. The type of faith I’m referring to is believing in God’s power to deliver you from dreadful situations. You see God bigger than your circumstances. 1 Corinthians 2:5 (KJV) says, “That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

Your faith and focus on God’s power give you the strength to grow. In Desires of the Heart Monthly Mastermind, I share ways to build a spiritual mindset through personal growth.

Here is one way to develop a spiritual mindset to move past regret:

1. Give yourself permission to be free from your mistakes: Condemning yourself over your decisions keeps you stuck in the circumstances. Romans 8:1 (NIV) says, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,” Condemnation is self-judging yourself while holding the guilt and shame of your mistakes in your mind. It has no right in your mind by spiritual law through Jesus. Forgiving yourself is one way to permit yourself to be free of what you regret from your mistakes and dread.

I challenge you to identify how you will forgive yourself.
